It was in the 1920's when Karl and Margret Voelkel settled on the H”hbeck, a sparsely populated area alongside the river Elbe. They started a fruit orchard comprising apple, pear and cherry trees as well as currant and gooseberry bushes there. The couple tended the garden with loving care. The various plants were looked after according to biodynamic principles. This fruit orchard served as a basis for a mobile fruit press called Mostmax that travelled the region and turned the fruit right on one's doorstep into delicious juice. Later on, they turned the local dairy into an organically-working fruit pressing plant. In the middle of the 1940's it was their son Harm who extended the company considerably. The range of juices he was able to offer was quite unusual in those days as he also processed wild fruit such as blackberries, elderberries, rose hips and sloes. Today, Stefan Voelkel is the head of this most modern organic fruit pressing plant. Together with his more than 85 member
