tropical forest welsh heather gold label honey
LLANDEGLA HEATHER MOORS start to bloom in mid August and David Wainwright brings his bees up from the lowlands as the summer flowers start to fade. These moors are traditionally managed for grouse maximising the purple ling heather ground cover by regular mowing and controlled burning. In this habitat the rare black grouse flourishes. Honey is made by the bees from the nectar the bees collect from the heather flowers, their foraging activities increase the pollination of the heather plants allowing them to successfully set seed and support heather growth. HEATHER HONEY is an exceptional honey difficult to produce and as much prized for its distinctive jelly-like texture, as the rich, bitter, aromatic flavour. It takes at least three times as much effort to produce and extract this honey from the wax honeycombs and so together with the uncertainties of the weather a rare and special treat, a real taste of the wild Welsh moor.
